Founder/CEO

Matt has spent a decade working in the field of mental health, with a special emphasis on addiction treatment and recovery. Matt holds a Master’s degree in Contemplative Psychotherapy from Naropa University in Boulder Colorado. He is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC), a Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), and a Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS).
Matt has worked in a number of settings, including outpatient offices, in-patient treatment centers, wilderness therapy programs, transitional living, and IOPs. His broad professional background has allowed him to develop skills in direct clinical counseling, program development and implementation, program compliance, leadership and staff development, and now program creation and licensure. Before Matt started to build Abhaya Wellness he held the critical role of Clinical Director at a Transitional Living and IOP program in Raleigh, NC.
Matt firmly believes that clinically trained individuals should be charged with developing, implementing, assessing, and improving treatment programs in order to ensure high quality client care is always the first, and most important, goal. His dedication to this led him to start Abhaya Wellness, which is a clinically owned and operated IOP and Group Therapy Practice in Durham, NC. He and his team have created the area’s only gender responsive, small group, systems oriented, intensive outpatient program. Matt has led his team to support many individuals on their recovery journey through compassionate, continuous, and collaborative care.
